Complementary therapies may be used in situations where animals are not candidates for traditional forms of treatment. Owners may also choose to integrate such therapies with conventional ones to optimise their animal's health and well-being. 

The Massey Students Complementary Therapy Club provides talks on topics about holistic medicine that have been researched and scientifically proven to work. These talks are given by speakers that have been recruited by Dr Liza Schneider, who is the president of the Complementary Veterinary Medicine Branch of the NZVA.
